Deck Decompression Chamber

DDC are high-risk working areas, the conditions inside any facilities can be transient and change rapidly from harmless to life-threatening. The DIA Medical Division in collaboration with the consultants of the Scientific Division have addressed the development of approaches and behaviors, the use of tools to be applied in the different phases of the risk management process to improve safety within the Deck Decompression Chamber in case of fires, loss of pressure and increase in temperature (Adiabatic Compression).

The purpose of study was to develop guidelines to mitigate dangers and risks and create appropriate behaviors for occupants and technicians responsible for managing the system. The initial process involved learning from DDC incidents reports that were collected from various national and international bodies. The unwanted events under analysis were incidents occurring in hyperbaric systems in different countries and leading to different kinds of consequences and involving one or more workers.
