Hypothermia Effects

Aeromedical transport and evacuation of diving patients in cold climates and during the winter season, can lead to problems related to hypothermia. Cold weather can be dangerous and can cause mild hypothermia. Factors such as shock, hypotension and hypovolemia impair thermoregulation.

Saturation diving involves long periods at pressure, breathing an Heliox mixture. Helium, being a good heat conductor causes an increased heat loss, and the effect increases with depth. Inadequacy or malfunction of the heating system inside the Life, leads to hypothermia.

The purpose of this study was to assess the effect of hypothermia on the diving illness and divers living in saturation diving systems including working activities in sea water, designing guidelines and integrating course topics.
