DIA Medical Division is doing something that has never been done before, offering to unmanned pilots and operators fitness to work programs. DIA Approved Medical Centres are responsible for assessing the medical fitness of pilots, stating that they are in good physical and mental condition. All pilots and operators need to have a valid fit to work certificate in order to work. 

A number of health factors can compromise the use of unmanned vehicles in certain situations, especially when the vehicles are used in contact with divers or on the surface near people and structures. Some are minor, while others are important enough to require special attention to ensure safe use of vehicles. 

Due to poor information about the physical and mental health of unmanned vehicle pilots, deficiency of procedures about excessive working hours and vessel movements produced from rough sea, loss of situation awareness, spatial disorientation, DIA has developed the Unmanned Vehicles Pilots and Operators Medical Fit Program. 

In order to become an unmanned vehicle pilot and operator, one must be medically cleared by completing a physical exam. DIA Unmanned Vehicles Medical Standards are much stricter than those addressed to Offshore personnel.
